Attending this free six-week AgileMBA course, which meets in-person or online twice a week in the morning, is well worth the time if you're looking to transition or advance your career as a job seeker or professional. The basics are covered by the instructor with additional resources provided by the supportive community, which is the real value-add from my point of view. The community reinforces the learning with questions, links, and interactive participation for applying what you learn in the workplace. There are plenty of job-related events and postings for you to take advantage of thanks to the community. Even if you're not developing an agile career as a technical professional (e.g., developer, product manager, project manager), you may want to attend for an overview of how you...Read more
Too much of the conversation about Agile nowadays focuses on specific processes and tools that someone is selling. With everyone looking for a quick fix trick to jump on the Agile bandwagon, it’s easy to forget that the Agile Manifesto gives more value to individuals and interactions.
The Job Hackers’ Agile MBA class restores that proper perspective with excellent readings, lectures and discussions on topics such as Cognitive Illusions, Systems Thinking, and Human Motivation (Drive) in addition to more traditional elements. The conversations with fellow classmates during and outside of class were powerful in expanding my perspective and understanding, and I am more prepared to lead teams effectively as a result. The PSM scholarship was the icing on the cake, giving me a globally-r...Read more
Larry is a fantastic teacher! I really enjoyed his teaching style and I love this class from the beginning to the end. They provided so much valuable information about software development which you can not earn at school. The most valuable part of this program that people who do it, support you through the process of finding a new job. It was such a rewarding experience and I have learned many valuable things throughout the course and useful for accelerating my new career path.
I would definitely recommend The Job Hackers’ Agile MBA course to anyone needing to grasp the concepts of Agile management in a very thorough manner. Larry does an amazing job of teaching the concepts, translating them into real life examples and with very good explanations. You do have to invest time in reviewing the arterial covered as well as the reading assigned but it is well worth it.
In addition he makes it so convenient, you can attend in person or via zoom.
I've done seat-of-the-pants and waterfall project management in work and life, so it seemed natural to consider becoming a Scrum master after a long break from paid work. I came to The Job Hackers' Agile-MBA course with an open, curious mind, not a conviction that this would be my new career.
I'm now a fan of Apke, Agile, and Scrum. Larry Apke's reading assignments and presentations were lively and fascinating. The reading is wide ranging and gives context for the presentations and dialog that follow. In class, Larry toggles between teaching straightforward Agile and Scrum lessons, and talking discursively about the textured history behind and reasons for Agile and Scrum's growth. The course content far transcends tech. I took away how the development of technology and other products...Read more
This course starts off with the "What is Agile?" question, but quickly moves on to "Why do Agile?" Larry describes scrums and sprints and story points, but then moves on to better management practices that come with Agile. Early delivery of client value, abbetter work environment, fun. Lots of reading material is provided - I was even inspired to read 'Peopleware', which I thoroughly recommend.
Great job Larry, and your hackers.
The class is comprehensive and designed to give participants the understanding, reasoning, and applicable tools to apply Scrum to software development. The instructor has firsthand experience, engages with the class through examples, speakers, activities, Q&A, dialogue, events, and resources for professional job search and certification preparation are provided. It's a great community that stays together even after the course to support each other and continue shared knowledge. Great environment of people. Very convenient to have in person and online class sessions, catering to all participants.
This class inspired my desire to facilitate change to improve working environments for development teams and allow for delivery of greater value to the companies they work for. I now have a much better understanding on how the agile philosophy drives value and the components that are necessary to be truly agile. I can also now see how the many myths impede agle transformations and how to better combat those myths.
I have moved few years back from a core technical profile to TPM role. This class have provided me great insight into Agile methodology and helped me learn a lot a in a short duration. . Larry is a great instructor and have a tons of real world experience. I highly recommend this course.
When I joined this program, I thought it would be another class with Agile content, covering Agile manifesto, principles, frameworks like scrum with description of events, artifacts and some test samples. Although I am a certified Scrum master and have been applying Agile project management in my consulting engagements for few years now, I decided to attend the class because it was highly recommended by people I volunteer with, at PMI SF Bay Are Chapter. That was a very good decision. Here is why:
- Besides the Agile content referred above, which I would recommend that attendees find online and read before starting this class, the training included content which provided a holistic approach to the application of Agile framework. Examples of topics are: Relative estimation and predictab...
If you are looking to learn about Agile( SRUM, Lean, XP, Kanban, home grown), to augment your managerial skillset, to add "cool tools" to your production toolbox, to engage in thought provoking discussions, or to learn something new a new way. If you have been on failed Agile teams and wish to understand reasons for its failure, if you want to further the cause of a Learning Organization, if you get some cross-discipline pollination with others out in the business, please contact The Job Hackers. Many in may class alone feel they learned more in this 6 week course than in their traditional MBA. I felt from a development point of view that it helped me understand the discipline of Agility in many aspects of the knowledge workers craft. I took the class online during their San Francisco ...Read more
Larry Apke's The Job Hackers Agile MBA is a thought-provoking class, with members from different industries and areas, reading different materials and learning in a holistic manner. Non-conventional, as it not only deals with the certification exam but makes all of us think deeply about why this methodology works in product development.
-Boring topic made interesting by charismatic teacher
-Lots of support by students, alumni, and staff for your certification (PSM) and job search.
-Class was conveniently timed to be 7:45-9:00am for students who worked
-The lectures aren’t detailed, the granular knowledge is gained from outside reading assignments (people who are expecting all this to be covered by the instructor were disappointed).
-There was very little discussion or Demo of software used to manage projects in Scrum. I think this was an oversight. The instructor spoke ill about products like Jira, but those are what’s in use. Ignoring them by discussing their flaws isn’t going to land someone a job as a scrum master.
-I would have liked a few more real world scenarios. It’s one thing to ...
Today is the first Tuesday when I don't have to wake up at 5.45 am and commute to SF downtown to take Larry's class. It feels empty without it. Even though I can sleep longer now.
When I reflect on my experience with the course, I cannot believe we were able to cover so many topics in only 6 weeks - Scrum Framework, Software Quality , Technical Debt, BDD&TDD, Continuous Integration, Lean Product Development, Systems Thinking, Cognitive Biases, and many-many others.. So many new books appeared on my bookshelf: by Tom Demarco, Daniel Pink, Don Reinertsen, Peter Senge, Matt Wynne, Eliyahu Goldratt, Nassim Taleb! Also, I was able to pass PSM (Scrum Master certification) from the first attempt :)
You don't just go through a series of concepts, learn tools and techniques, you deal with...Read more
This class is awesome, the instructor is great and the learning environment is mainly presentation and discussion style. I highly recommend this course for anyone looking for a great learning environment with in-depth details on scrum, agile and having better overall view on human interaction.
Great Training, presentations, discussion!
Today is the last day of the Job Hacker's Class with Larry Apke's Scrum training, and I have learned so much. It is not only the content for PSM, but a radical change in the thought processes for working on projects. It is not bookish, although will help in PSM, but is a way of thinking! He truly put in practice ' Learning how to Learn'! Thank you Larry for the awesome presentations and your time.
This is the best class I have ever taken! You should take this class as soon as possible.
The instructor, Larry Apke started with the “why?” of Agile, and we all finished with an understanding of how to better facilitate team efforts.
The time is right, 7:30am, and I am not a morning person. It didn’t take the discipline I thought it would. The first session left me anxiously anticipating the next as did each of the 12 class sessions to follow. I easily got up and to class on time each day.
The price is right. You contribute what you can to your new favorite cause, The Job Hackers’ Agile training. This class prepared me to take and pass the Professional Scrum Master certification. Scrum.org offers classes starting at $1,300 to prepare you to pass the Professional Scrum M...Read more
